Prince Harry talks grief, stress and loss in final event of UK trip

Sebastian, 16, whose father, the Reverend John Hill, served in the Navy and died in 2010, asked Harry if he had done anything special to celebrate his mother’s death or birthday.

“Yes, we’re making lemon cake,” Harry replied. “I think traditions are really important, especially when they’re sweet.”

Joshua, 21, whose father, Lance Corporal Christopher Bradshaw, died in a car crash in November 2011, asked the question: “When life takes its toll and the going gets tough, what do you do to de-stress and relax?”

The Duke replied: “Exercise is universally beneficial in combating grief, stress and loss.”

“Going for a walk in nature, taking the dog for a walk or swimming in the cold sea – I love that – just getting out and moving.”

“It’s so easy to sit in the grief, to sit in the stress,” Harry said, but he had learned that it was better to do something, to talk.

“Friends, if you feel it, share it.”
