Asim Munir For President? Why India Should Be Watching Pakistan’s Power Shuffle Closely | World News

From Lahor to Karachi, political circles and common citizens are stunned by speculation: Pakistan’s powerful army chief General Asim Munir, plans to be the next president of the country? Reports in some Pakistani media show that Munir’s PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto is the father of the current president Asif Ali Zardari, and potentially investigating constitutional changes to establish the best civilian mission.

Why does Munir see the presidency?

Although military intervention in Pakistan’s civilian affairs is almost never new, Munir’s movement causes deeper questions. Analysts believe that the army wants more strict control over political narratives, especially after the recent friction with Bilawal Bhutto, who clearly criticizes Munir’s war -opening statements following India’s Sindoor operation. It was reported that the army expected to strengthen his anti -Indian discourse during Bilawal’s foreign visits, but instead of the Army’s agenda, the Diplomatic stuck to the Treaty of Indus Waters.

Increased tension between PPP-Military

This challenge expanded the crack between the Pakistani People’s Party (PPP) and the Army. Zardari’s position as president has become a point of pressure, and the speculation to remove it will weaken Bilawal’s political stance. After Bilawal, the friction concentrated, and he made a controversial interview that Pakistan would consider arrest him for where Masood Azhar was in India – an explanation that upsets both the army and terror networks in the army.

Return Dilemma

Although there is no official refund agreement between India and Pakistan, international law contains a principle called “double guilt” – which allows the defendant to be returned for the same crime in both countries. For example, Hafiz Saeed was tried in Pakistan for his role in 26/11 Mumbai attacks and was also convicted in the United States for relevant terrorism charges. Similarly, Masood Azhar is accused of planning the assassination of the former dictator Ferkef Müşerref in Pakistan. These legal cases on top of each other mean that it is not impossible to return-and the latest signals from the Pakistan government made the terror-related group and Munir’s environment.

Munir – actual leader?

Although PM Shehbaz Sharif rejected Munir’s speculation about the presidential ambitions, history draws a different picture. Munir has recently been promoted to Ayub Khan, a rare honor, Field Marshal. Munir also holds a resume full of strong advertisements from DG Is to the Army Chief, and proposes a man who positions high -profile solo visits to key nations such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran in a global prominent without civilian or civilian approved.

What does this mean for India

Field Marshal Munir will be a Pakistan – officially or behind the scenes – deep militarized, potentially tensions with the new Delhi. India already sees Munir as the architect of the last expensive terrorist attack, a loyal supporter of the two nation theory and is called Kashmir’s “Jugula vein” of Pakistan. The rise may mean harsh rhetoric, aggressive stance and tight coordination between military and terrorist deputies in Kashmir.

After all

Munir, whether president or not, the increasing dominance of Pakistan in the power structure cannot be denied. And for India, a military first under the shadow of Munir, Pakistan, is both a diplomatic and open red flag on the security front.
