Prince William ‘gutted’ as he issues statement following England World Cup loss | Royal | News
In a statement released shortly after England’s defeat, Prince William thanked the players and said the country was “proud” of them. He said: “You are heartbroken. England, you gave it your all and we are all so proud of you. Thank you to everyone on and off the field for this incredible tournament.”
The statement continued: “Your fight and belief inspired us all. The most complete England team of the tournament. Keep your heads up. W.”
The message is signed “W”, meaning it is a personal message from the prince to the players and the England team. Prince William did not attend the match in person but is believed to have watched all the matches from his home at Forest Lodge with his family.
England are believed to be planning to fly out to watch the 2026 World Cup Final if they are successful. This is not expected to happen as England are out of the tournament.
Argentina will now play against Spain in the final on Sunday to be crowned the winners of the 2026 World Cup.
England will play against France for third place in the tournament on Saturday.
Prince William is not expected to watch this match in person. As well as supporting England in international tournaments, William is also known to be a strong Aston Villa fan. The Prince of Wales is often seen attending matches and cheering on his team from the Birmingham stands.
He took his eldest son Prince George, 12, to a number of matches and George was also an Aston Villa supporter. Prince William and Princess Catherine’s youngest children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are yet to be seen in the Aston Villa stands.
