Prince William opens up about sharing Catherine’s cancer diagnosis with their children

“We choose to communicate more with our children… often it doesn’t work to hide things from them,” Prince William said in an interview in Brazil.
“Every family has its own challenges and challenges. How you deal with those issues is very individual and kind of depends on the moment,” he added.
The prince visited the Latin American country for the first time last week on the occasion of the fifth Earthshot Prize, of which he is the founder and chairman.
The award celebrates people who come up with ideas that help solve problems affecting the planet. The winners of each category will receive £1 million to develop their ideas further.
Speaking to Brazilian TV presenter Luciano Huck in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the awards ceremony on November 5, Prince William was asked how he and Catherine had overcome the difficult things they had faced in the last two years.
“Sometimes you feel like you’re sharing too much with kids,” said Prince William, father of 12-year-old Prince George, 10-year-old Princess Charlotte and 7-year-old Prince Louis.
“But a lot of times hiding things from them doesn’t work, and so explaining how they’re feeling, why that’s happening, giving them other perspectives on why they might be feeling that way sometimes helps give them a bigger picture and they can be more relaxed about it instead of being really worried about ‘what are you hiding from me?’
“There are so many more questions when there are no answers.”
“But it’s always a balancing act,” she added, “How much do I say? What do I say? When do I say it? There’s no manual for being a parent, you just have to follow it.”
The Princess of Wales announced in January that her cancer was in remission.
King Charles’ treatment continues.
In the interview, where many topics were discussed, Prince William said that they did not allow their children to be given phones.
“It’s really hard. Our kids don’t have phones. I think when George gets to middle school, maybe he’ll have a phone with limited access,” she said.
“This is getting to the point where it’s a bit of a tense issue, but I think [Prince George] We understand why, communicate why we think it’s not right, and again, I think the problem is internet access.
“I think kids have access to so many things online that they don’t need to see,” he said.
He added that either he or Catherine did the school run most days and jokingly referred to himself as the taxi driver when talking to Huck.
Speaking about the Earthshot Prize, which is being held for the first time in Brazil this year, Prince William said: “We are halfway through what we have described as the decade of change; if we want to leave a lasting legacy and truly change the way we protect, restore and live the planet, we must do so in this decade of change.
“Am I satisfied with the progress Earthshot has made and where the world is heading in environmental and climate leadership? Yes, I think we are making progress. Is there more to do? Yes.”
Winners of this year’s prize included a project to restore tropical forests and a global ocean treaty initiative.
