Prince William ‘put in his place’ by King Charles during tense Andrew showdown | Royal | News

A new royal biography has revealed how the Prince of Wales called for decisive action against the Duke of York following his devastating television appearance over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Inside ‘William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story‘ Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers explained that Prince William pressured both his father and grandmother to take firm steps after Prince Andrew’s widely criticized BBC Newsnight interview in 2019.
According to the book written by Russell Myers, William believed the monarchy was “engaged in a full-scale firefight” and faced a serious threat to its future from public outrage over Andrew’s links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The biography is based on William’s father and the late Queen Elizabeth II. He claims he begged Elizabeth to permanently remove Andrew from public life, calling Andrew’s continued presence “a stain on the whole family”.
However, the Prince is said to have faced resistance as his parents were in favor of Andrew’s protection, and King Charles was said to have “put him in charge”. [William] instead” during tense discussions.
A source told the author: “It’s very easy to put yourself in William’s shoes when you understand the fact that everything that happens here and now affects everything in the future, that is, William’s future. He never really liked his uncle very much and immediately wanted him out of the picture before the rot went any further. William’s view was this: [Andrew] He got himself into this whole mess, so he has to figure it out on his own, away from the family.”
The book also details William and Catherine’s reaction to subsequent developments, including police assessments by Thames Valley Police and interviews with the Crown Prosecution Service. Earlier this week, the Prince and Princess of Wales issued an unprecedented statement saying they were “deeply concerned by the ongoing revelations” about Andrew, adding that their thoughts were “focused on the victims”.
Myers said: “I spent almost a decade following the Prince and Princess of Wales as part of the royal group and have always believed that the couple was much more than what the show revealed.
“The result of this biography is a truly intimate portrait of William and Catherine, providing not only a unique insight into who they were as individuals, but also shocking revelations about them as a couple and the world they lived in. This biography goes beyond the headlines as it explores love, resilience and their journey together as they fulfill their public duties during this unprecedented time.”
The book comes out on February 26.
