Prince William warns Travis Kelce about England’s boozy World Cup fans, reveals King Charles’ ‘hatred’ of football… and opens up on secret plan for UK to host future tournament

Prince William spoke about the possibility of the World Cup returning to England during an exclusive appearance on the New Heights podcast.
The royal appeared as a surprise guest on a one-off episode of NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast, which aired Friday, hours before Travis was due to marry Taylor Swift.
In a major podcast appearance for the prince, William, who also serves as the official Patron of the English Football Association, discussed the World Cup currently being held in the US, Canada and Mexico, particularly the notorious match day behavior of England fans.
William admitted that the taste of American beer may be the biggest culture shock for fans visiting England who come to America for the football extravaganza.
“I don’t think you’ve met someone for you until you’ve met a lot of beer drinkers from Britain,” he warned the two NFL stars. ‘We can give our beer to anyone.’
Like all England fans, William, who served as Chairman of the FA from 2006 until becoming Boss in 2024, is familiar with the pain and suffering that accompanies the experience of an international tournament.

The episode aired hours before Travis was due to marry Taylor Swift on July 3.
He emphasized that despite years of pain, Thomas Tuchel believes his team can lift the cup in New Jersey on July 19.
‘I always felt like we had a really good chance,’ he said. ‘But as each World Cup goes on and the results don’t quite go your way… there’s a little bit of hope dashed every time.
‘I’m taking this job calmly and quietly and it’s like ‘come on, we’ll do a good job and see how we go.’ But I think I’m quietly confident.’
Although it remains to be seen whether he will actually come home this month, William hinted the World Cup could return to England in the future. At least the tournament.
When asked about Jason’s role at the FA he said: “I think we’re trying to support our World Cup or European ambitions.” ‘This country is especially crazy about football.
‘So, trying to get a World Cup held here… Or a euro here is great. I tried to do some work on this subject. But I also think I’ll try to help reform the system a little bit.’
He added that one of the most important aspects of his job was to act as a ‘cheerleader’ for the organization and ensure the FA had the ‘backing of the country’.
William’s passion for sport is well documented, with the royal often spotted cheering on his beloved Aston Villa at Villa Park with his son Prince George.

He has supported both men’s and women’s national teams on the global stage; She attended the 2020 Euro final against Italy with George and Princess Kate, and attended last year’s UEFA Women’s Euro match, which the Lionesses won with Princess Charlotte.
He also frequently attends FA Cup finals in an official capacity due to his cup presenting responsibilities.
However, although William passed his passion for sports on to his children, he did not inherit it from his own father. In fact, he revealed that King Charles did not share his love of football at all.
Absolutely not. ‘My dad hates football,’ he said when asked if the King had introduced him to supporting Aston Villa, which stunned Travis and Jason.
Travis and Jason are of course more familiar with American football. Travis is a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs and will enter his 14th season in the NFL in September.
Jason, meanwhile, is a Philadelphia Eagles legend and won a Super Bowl with the team before retiring in 2024 after 13 seasons.
But as World Cup excitement swept the United States, William believed he could turn the brothers into football fans.
Sharing that he would attend the final if England reached the final, the prince joked that he would invite the duo to the MetLife Stadium and said: ‘I’ll see you both there in the final.’

But Travis’ focus will already have shifted to the upcoming NFL season when the Chiefs’ training camp begins 10 days after the World Cup final.
William came up with a plan to sneak out of Missouri for the occasion, joking that he would write Kansas City head coach Andy Reid to ask for permission.
Before the NFL preseason begins, Travis’ attention is focused on a much bigger event: his wedding to Taylor.
The NFL star and singer are set to marry in a star-studded ceremony at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Friday evening — five hours after the New Heights with William podcast debuted.
The royal previously joked that he was ‘hoping’ to get an invite to Taylor and Travis’ New York wedding after befriending the couple at Wembley Stadium in 2024.
The pop singer and NFL star posed for a selfie with the Prince of Wales and his two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, at the show.
Travis made a special appearance during that concert, wowing fans when he took the stage to do a little performance with his pop sensation fiancée.
‘It’s definitely a very proud moment of my life,’ he said of the final part of his performance.

She admitted that both she and Jason were nervous about meeting the Royal Family and were afraid of breaking protocol.
‘It truly was one of the best moments ever meeting you and the little ones that day,’ he added. ‘Me and Jason joke about this all the time.
‘We were so excited to meet you and the royal family. And there’s a joke about Jason not knowing what to do with his beer.’
‘This wasn’t a joke. “It was real,” Jason insisted. ‘I don’t know what happened. You want to be respectful and of course know what the protocols are. No, it was great. And you were great. The kids were great.
‘Princess Charlotte was still the highlight for me. “I have four daughters too, and she was great too.”
