Is your neighbor’s fence on your property? Here’s what the City of Manitowoc says to do.

MANITOWOC – After a weekend of yard work, your neighbor now has a shiny new fence along his property line. The only problem is; you suspect the fence is open your property. What are you doing?
The City of Manitowoc offers a convenient solution directory Surveying existing resources and using GIS mapping to identify property lines and ownership interests.
However, the city does not offer mediation services in boundary line disputes. The document calls for “resolving the private property issue between neighboring landowners.”

The document also notes that one or both property owners may want to hire a land surveyor, a third party who uses established legal documents to determine the boundaries of private property.
The State of Wisconsin offers more guidance on relocating fences once you know the actual property line.
statute status The landowner must provide written notice to the owner of the fence in question that the fence is located on the landowner’s property.

The owner of the fence has 30 days to move his fence. Otherwise, the landowner may relocate the fence and recover the costs of such relocation from the fence owner.
The only caveat in the statute is that the landowner is not allowed to move the fence during a period when annual crops may be damaged by the displacement.
