Princess Kate dismisses Meghan Markle’s ‘barefoot’ claims with key gesture to Roman Kemp | Royal | News

Princess Catherine’s sweet gesture with Roman Kemp’s family appeared to refute Meghan Markle’s “staggering” claims about how the royal family behaves even in informal settings. The Princes of Wales met the TV and radio star’s father at the family home in Hertfordshire in February 2023 after teaming up for a short film for the Shaping Us mental health campaign.

The pair got in touch after Catherine watched Mr Kemp’s documentary about men’s mental health. In a new interview with The sunday sunRoman spoke about his father, I’m a Celebrity star Martin Kemp, and revealed his sweet friendship with the future Queen, as well as his kind and relatable nature. Catherine, 32, said she took off her shoes when she entered the house.

He explained: “I remember when he arrived he could see everyone taking their shoes off and he offered to take his own off.

“It was surreal. Somehow, you never expect to see a member of the Royal Family in their socks!”

While talking about her and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries, Meghan Markle opened up about how the Royal Family maintains formality even behind closed doors.

In the second episode, the Duchess of Sussex recalled that it showed her meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales for the first time, and although it was more casual given the informal setting, she claimed this did not apply to her future father-in-law, which she found “jarring”.

She said: “Even when Will and Kate came and I met him for the first time, they came for the first time, I remember wearing ripped jeans and being barefoot.

“I started to realize that the formality of the outside continues inside, it’s a forward-looking way of being, and then you close the door and think, ‘Okay, now we can relax.’

“But this formality applies on both sides, and that was surprising to me.”

She added: “I was a hugger and always have been a hugger. I didn’t realize it was really traumatic for a lot of Brits.”

Elsewhere, Roman revealed his parents gave the future Queen some of their own apple juice, and Prince George ended up loving it.

He explained: “Later, my parents took him home as a gift some of the apple juice they had squeezed from their garden.

“A few weeks later my mom wrote me a lovely letter in which she kept thanking them and saying Prince George loved the juice and was there any chance for more!”
