Princess Kate leads congratulations for British sensation Arthur Fery as he becomes first wildcard to reach Wimbledon semi-final in 25 years

The Princess of Wales congratulated British tennis player Arthur Fery on his ‘fantastic achievement’ as he became the first wildcard to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals in 25 years.
Fery, 23, beat No. 9 seed Flavio Cobolli in straight sets this evening and will advance to the next round to face No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev.
Princess Catherine, who went to X, paid tribute to the ‘wonderful day at Wimbledon’.
He said: ‘Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wild card player to reach the Men’s Singles semi-finals in the Open Era; This is an amazing achievement that inspires many people. I wish you the best in the next round.’
The princess signed her message with a tennis ball emoji and the letter ‘C’.
This happened after the player, who was preparing to enter the midfield for the biggest match of his career, received a surprise welcome from the Queen.
While Fery appeared to be tying his shoelaces while next to his opponent at the players’ entrance, Camilla walked behind him.
When Fery stood up and turned around, the Queen shook his hand and as Fery turned towards her she could be heard saying: ‘Nice to meet you.’

He said: ‘Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wildcard to reach the Men’s Singles semi-finals in the Open Era.’
He is thought to have added: ‘You snuck up on me there,’ before shouldering his bag and heading towards Center Court.
The royal blessing forms part of a new world for the breakout tennis star who is making her mark at this year’s Championships.
It took place amidst a royal event at Wimbledon this afternoon, as the Queen enjoyed a day out with younger sister Annabel Elliot and newlyweds Peter and Harriet Phillips.
Camilla, 78, looked chic in the sky blue Anna Valentine dress she wore to the Ascot races last month as she joined the action at SW19 on Day 10 of the championship.
The Princess of Wales immerses herself in the best of the action at Wimbledon; leaving the Royal Lodge aside to enjoy the scenes.
The tennis-mad royal, who is a keen player himself and often hands the trophy to the winner at the end of the tournament, previously sat alongside tennis royalty at SW19 alongside the likes of Sir Andy Murray and Tim Henman on a glorious summer’s day last week.
She then wore an elegant blue linen suit from Gabriela Hearst for the occasion and paired it with a white top and Ralph Lauren sunglasses.
Fery advanced to today’s round after beating Grigor Dimitrov in his first match on Center Court on Monday, becoming the first wild card player to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals in more than a decade.
Arthur Fery was given a surprise welcome by the Queen as he prepared to enter Center Court for the biggest match of his career.
The Queen was joined by her sister in the Royal Box on Day 10 of Wimbledon, along with All England Lawn Tennis Club President Deborah Jevans.
Fery had previously won just one match at Wimbledon and has won five matches in these two weeks.
British joker raised his fist to the crowd to salute his victory as he reached the semi-finals
The 23-year-old, relatively unknown outside British tennis circles, had just two Tour-level wins in his life before the start of the grass season.
But tonight, both her forehand and backhand hits and drop shots carried her through to Friday’s semifinals.
If he manages to beat Alexander Zverev, he will face Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic in the final on his 24th birthday.
Although Fery’s progress to the quarter-finals was hugely impressive, he had never played anyone ranked in the world’s top 35 until that point.
But that changed tonight when he faced No. 9 seed Cobolli, a French Open finalist last month.
