The Princess of Wales shared a touching moment with a 100-year-old woman at a Buckingham Palace reception. The King and Queen Camilla hosted a reception to commemorate the 100th birthday of the late Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday, April 21.

The ceremony was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the British celebrating their 100th birthday. Princess Kate spoke to one of the attendees, Joan Illingworth, and asked her personal care secrets. He gave her a sweet three-word compliment: “You look great.” Miss Illingworth also spoke to Prince William and said: “I can’t believe you’re 100 years old, do I need to call security, did you sneak in?” She added: “The Prince of Wales said I looked good for my age and asked me what my secret was.” According to Hello!, she revealed that her secret to staying young is to eat confectionery and licorice varieties.

At the reception, centenarians enjoyed a birthday cake decorated with ‘100’ and a band performed ‘Happy Birthday’ while the King and Queen handed out 100th birthday cards to guests.

Every British citizen who reaches the age of 100 receives a birthday card from the monarch at age 105 and every year thereafter.

Mrs Illingworth, from Bradford, helped cut the cake, but after the King said she could not do it, she said “Let me do it” and helped the 100-year-old with the task.

Those invited include representatives from a group of charities the late Queen served during her reign, including the Royal College of Nursing, the Victoria Cross and George Cross Society and the Royal Ballet.

Princess Anne attends Queen Elizabeth II in Regent’s Park on 21 April. He officially opened the Elizabeth Garden. On the same day, the King and Queen visited the British Museum to examine design proposals for a new monument to the late Queen.
