Prisoner arrested after escaping during hospital transfer

Police arrested a prisoner who escaped while being transferred from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Manchester Police said in the early hours of Friday that Marwan Jumaa, 20, was in custody by Lancashire Constabulary following a manhunt.
“An alert Lancashire Constabulary officer recognized Jumaa and moved quickly to arrest him,” Detective Supt Nicola McCulloch said in a statement. “He will now be returned to a secure hospital facility.”
Officers had appealed for information after Jumaa, who is serving an indefinite prison sentence for attacking two women, escaped while being transported to hospital. He was described as a risk to others and himself.
Members of the public were warned not to approach him but were asked to contact authorities instead.
McCulloch continued: “This was a fast-moving investigation involving a significant number of officers and resources from Greater Manchester Police.
“I would like to thank the public for their support following our appeal. Our call handlers received a significant amount of information from the public and this assistance was invaluable in locating Jumaa.
“We are extremely grateful for the support shown throughout this investigation.”
