Mapped: The counties where temperatures could hit 26C in this week’s heatwave
The UK is set for a scorching bank holiday weekend, with temperatures expected to soar to 26°C in some counties.
After a week of unstable conditions and below-average temperatures, the Sun will bring plenty of warmth throughout the long weekend.
According to the Met Office, residents across England can expect the mercury to reach at least 20C by the weekend, while those in central and eastern regions will enjoy temperatures of up to 26C.
However, forecasters are predicting some rain as the warm weather brings some moisture, particularly in the north of England and Scotland.
Temperatures are expected to rise by 22 degrees in the south-east of England and 20 degrees in the central and northern parts of England from Thursday. The Met Office says conditions will be slightly cooler in coastal areas, but most will experience hot, dry weather.
Forecasters say the weather will become increasingly hot and humid on Friday. Temperatures are expected to reach 26C in Greater London and Cambridgeshire, with 22C to 25C across large parts of England.
People in the south-east of England can expect strong sunshine, while in the north it is expected to be cloudier.
Heading into the bank holiday weekend, much of the country is set to see sunshine as temperatures continue to remain warm but fall slightly on Saturday. Forecasters are predicting a top temperature of 24°C in the south-east of England, while the mercury will rise to between 20°C and 23°C in the rest of the UK.
The fine weather is expected to continue on Sunday, with temperatures rising to 26°C in Greater London and 25°C elsewhere in the south-east. High temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees are expected across the rest of the UK, with sunny weather expected to persist for most days.
Bank holiday Monday will bring beautiful, warm conditions to much of the UK; There will be high temperatures of 25 degrees in the south and slightly cooler temperatures in the north.
Forecasters say conditions will remain warm and sunny for most of next week.
“Over the next week, high pressure is generally expected to continue across much of the UK, with fair weather expected to continue across much of the country,” the Met Office said.
“There may be cases where the low pressure in the north may cause short-term rain in the northern parts, but generally good weather will prevail. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, with light winds, it is expected to feel very hot at times.”
