Nearly $39 billion was paid in wages and salaries in the ACT in 2024-25. Of this, $11.6 billion was assessed by the grants committee to be responsible for payroll tax, and using the average national payroll tax rate of 5.7 per cent, the ACT was found to have raised $660 million.
