Prominent WA figure in critical condition after alleged assault
A prominent member of WA’s political and mining community has been hospitalized in a serious condition following an attack in Perth’s city center in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Tim Picton has been identified as the victim of an alleged attack in Perth on Saturday morning.
The victim suffered a head injury after being found unconscious in the street outside a nightclub in Northbridge.
It was stated that the 36-year-old man, who was urgently taken to Royal Perth Hospital, was in critical condition and was being treated for life-threatening injuries.
A WA Police spokesman said a 20-year-old man from Lesmurdie was charged with grievous bodily harm over the incident. He was taken into custody and will appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
Nine News Perth identified the victim as Tim Picton, director of mining giant Mineral Resources.
Picton spearheaded Labour’s 2021 campaign as Mark McGowan was re-elected in a landslide victory.
He also previously worked for Victorian Premier Dan Andrews, and his brother Chris Picton was a Minister in the South Australian government.
Police said the 36-year-old man was attacked around 5.35am and hit his head on the pavement near the intersection of James Street and Mountain Terrace.
