SPECIAL: A new report by a conservative think tank says AI is the new “cold war” between the US and China.

reportThe Center for Security Policy warns that the Chinese Communist Party is “on the cusp” of becoming a world leader in artificial intelligence, claiming new technology is the “cold war” of the 21st century. He warns that if the CCP manages to dominate artificial intelligence by 2030 as it plans, the United States will be relegated to “a second-tier power and worse.”

The report states, “The only and immediate threat to the continuation of American artificial intelligence dominance is the People’s Republic of China.” “The race for AI dominance will be won or lost in five years. The threat is existential to the future of the United States and the rest of the world.”

According to the report, America’s AI dominance is significant because of the “dangers” it would pose if the CCP became the leader in the technology.

IS IT APOCALYPSE NOW? WHY DID THE MEDIA SUDDENLY BEGIN CRAZY ABOUT AI?

The report explains that while AI designed in America typically aligns with moral guardrails, this may not be the same as in China, adding that the CCP’s morality “is constructed to maintain the ideological purity, discipline, and legitimacy required of Party leadership and is not based on a transcendent or immutable moral philosophy.”

The report notes that if China becomes a world leader in artificial intelligence, the CCP “could position itself to dictate technology standards around the world.”

“American and other Western companies will be pressured or forced to adapt their technologies to those developed under CCP sponsorship,” the report’s author says.

The report came as Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Taiwan, which China is threatening to invade.

“I don’t think you’re going to see a trade deal where what people are worried about is that we’re going to get a trade deal or we’re going to get favorable treatment on trade in exchange for leaving Taiwan,” Rubio said. “Nobody thinks about that.”

The report also notes that China could drive American companies into bankruptcy if the CCP can “flood the world market” with cheap, high-quality artificial intelligence.

Worse still, the report says China will use artificial intelligence to increase its military power to challenge America’s world dominance.

“The CCP’s advances in artificial intelligence will challenge the United States in all areas, including autonomous weapons, high-speed battlefield decision-making, and the deep integration of civilian innovations into the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) arsenal,” the report states. “The CCP has mastered the technology to be deployed in swarms as drones, robotic vehicles, and robot dogs to track and destroy targets with minimal human intervention. Humanoid combat robots, which the CCP calls ‘super soldiers,’ are in their early stages but are also designed to operate in swarms.”

The report’s author, Center for Security Policy Senior Analyst J. Michael Waller, told Fox News Digital that America risks losing “everything” if it allows China to move forward with artificial intelligence.

“If we allow China to dominate in artificial intelligence, we lose everything. They control the elements, the physical elements, that are needed to create the hardware to run artificial intelligence. If they can dominate the worldwide market, set the standards worldwide, then we will start working for the Chinese Communist Party,” he said.

Waller said the national security implications of China becoming a world leader in artificial intelligence will be “beyond anything we have ever imagined.”

“Imagine having an AI system that tells us what we need to know, tells us how to think, does the reasoning for us, and then does the reasoning for the machines,” Waller said.
