PSG Wins Champions League After Shootout Victory Against Arsenal

BUDAPEST: Paris Saint-Germain won back-to-back Champions League trophies by beating Arsenal on penalties in a dramatic final at the Puskas Arena on Saturday.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes scored his team’s final penalty kick over the bar to give PSG a 4-3 win.

The regular time and extra time of the match ended in a 1-1 draw and the match went to a penalty shoot-out.

Arsenal took the lead six minutes later when Kai Havertz broke away and headed past PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. But the reigning champions dominated possession and Ousmane Dembélé equalized from the penalty spot in the 65th to send the final into extra time for the first time in 10 years.

Eberechi Eze also missed an earlier spot-kick, but David Raya saved from Nuno Mendes to ensure Arsenal stayed level.

Lucas Beraldo scored PSG’s final kick, which meant Gabriel had to convert to lead to sudden death. But he set the bar very high to spark the celebrations of PSG players and fans at the Puskas Arena.
