Pune police bust illegal arms units in Madhya Pradesh; 36 detained, weapons seized

Pune police busted a major inter-state illegal arms manufacturing and smuggling racket running from a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district, detained 36 people and seized a large cache of weapons, officials said.

Police launched a crackdown in Madhya Pradesh’s Umarti village, about 500 km from Maharashtra’s Pune, after a large number of pistols were seized there in the last three weeks through supply contacts based in MP, officials said on Saturday.

It was stated that in the operation carried out jointly with the parliamentary police, 50 furnaces producing illegal weapons were destroyed.
“Pune police carried out a combing operation in Madhya Pradesh. During the investigation of cases registered in the city’s Vimantal and Kalepadal police stations, we received ample information about pistol manufacturing units located in MP. Pune and Madhya Pradesh police jointly carried out this action,” Pune’s Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said at a press conference. he said.

“Raids were carried out at many points, weapons factories were destroyed. A total of 36 people were detained.”


A total of 21 pistols were seized in Pune in the last three weeks. During the interrogation of the suspect in the city, it was revealed that the weapons brought to Pune were procured from Madhya Pradesh. The official added that after this this operation was planned and carried out: “This is an arms supply chain. The search is on for those who sent these weapons to Pune. Many more people were involved in this ruckus and the investigation is still on.” said Joint CP.

A team of 105 police personnel from Pune, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Somay Munde, participated in the operation.
