Samajwadi Party criticises U.P. Govt. over IAS officer’s resignation

Samajwadi Party (SP) on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, criticized the Uttar Pradesh Government for the resignation of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Rinku Singh Rahi, claiming that ‘efficient officials have no importance in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’. The party said the only people respected were those who stole money or charged a five percent entry fee even for investments.

“Efficient officials have no importance in the BJP government. Those who are respected are only those who steal money or charge five per cent entry fee even for investments. We urge every good officer not to take any decision under the influence of emotions; bad days are about to end. The PDA government will come and give due respect and dignity to everyone, because the PDA government will be a people’s government, it will truly work for development to solve problems and eliminate inequalities. Quality work and timely completion always require excellent civil servants. We are the president of Samajwadi Party (SP) We have always valued and will continue to value civil servants who are skilled at their jobs. Be it an aggrieved officer or an employee, everyone is joining with the PDA to bring down the BJP. “The pain is increasing and so is the PDA,” Akhilesh Yadav said in a post on X.

Party spokesman Nasser Salim said that the fact that experienced and talented civil servants choose to withdraw from public service naturally raises questions about the institutional environment and the need to protect the dignity of public services.

“We share the broader concern that the morale, autonomy and dignity of the public service must be protected in any democracy. When experienced and capable civil servants choose to withdraw from the public service, this naturally raises questions about the institutional environment in which they are expected to serve. Our position is not to target individuals or make false accusations. It is about highlighting the need for a governance framework in which merit, integrity and professionalism are constantly promoted and valued. Administrative efficiency and ethical conduct must always be fundamental. It is the cornerstone of public administration. “We believe that such developments must be evaluated constructively so that institutions remain strong, impartial and dedicated solely to the public welfare, without fear or undue pressure, with the assurance that integrity and competence will be recognized,” he said.

In a statement HinduFormer Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said the resignation was ‘not a good thing’.

Mr. Ranjan said, “The resignation is not a good thing, it gives the impression that the officer was not treated fairly. The person was not given a suitable post. Appointment is within the prerogative of the government but from everything that was said and done, the officer does not deserve such treatment.”

2022-batch IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi wrote a letter on March 26, offering technical resignation, alleging that he was not given meaningful responsibility for a long period of time and was kept in a subordinate position that prevented him from serving the public. Last July 2025, Mr Rahi was appointed to the UP Board of Revenue after a video of him doing sit-ups holding his ears during a protest by lawyers in Shahjahanpur district went viral.
