Puppy among those rescued from sinking boat during ruff day at sea

A puppy and five people have been rescued from a sunken inflatable boat off the Queensland coast.

The group activated a rescue signal from the Cape Bowling Green area near Townsville at around 6.30am on Thursday.

A rescue helicopter found five people and a blue puppy named Sooky inside the sinking seven-metre rigid inflatable boat.

The puppy was rescued at around 7.30 in the morning by a team consisting of two 45-year-old women, a 28-year-old woman, a 50-year-old man and a 41-year-old man. They were taken back to Townsville.

The inflatable boat was a tender for a 36-meter yacht.

“The yacht did not sink and was not within swimming distance of the sinking side [inflatable boat]”said the police.

Authorities will investigate the incident.
