Vladimir Putin is humiliated after a key ally urged him to “freeze” the Ukraine war. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made an explosive statement during his meeting with the Russian President in Omsk, Russia, and said that he received “many signals” from Europe and the USA.
Putin launched the war in 2022, calling it a “special military operation” and carrying out attacks and land invasions on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Exact figures have not been confirmed, but CNN reports that the war resulted in 450,000 Russian deaths and 1.4 million casualties (about 1% of the country’s population).
Ukraine, meanwhile, suffered between 525,000 and 625,000 casualties, including 125,000 to 150,000 deaths.
Mr. Tokayev told Putin: “Perhaps it is time to freeze this conflict and return to the Istanbul 2.0 formula, since important results have been achieved here.
“From now on – under the guarantee of the great powers, naturally including Russia – we can move forward. I will not hide that I received many signals, which I informed you on the phone.
“Signals are coming from Europe and the USA about the current state of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. It is a pity, young people are dying, this is about the gene pool of brotherly peoples, Russia and Ukraine.
“All this needs to be stopped because, in my view, what is happening benefits and pleases the enemies of both Russia and Ukraine.”
Putin said he would inform Tokayev about “developments on the Ukrainian front.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who will meet Trump at the White House next week, told US political commentator Laura Loomer: “If we can stop the war tomorrow to get a ceasefire, that’s better than fighting for victory for 10-20 years and losing your people.”
