The Devil Wears Prada 2, Wolfram and Seven Snipers
E (100 minutes)
Whether it be Warwick Thornton’s wolfram Whether you qualify as a Western depends on what you think a Western is. Thornton has no shortage of heat and dust, even more than in 2017 Sweet CountryIt is also set north of Alice Springs around 1930 (and written by the same team, David Tranter and Steven McGregor).
The border violence is also no less evident than in the previous film. “Wolfram” is the word for tungsten mined in this remote region. However, this title seems to evoke other connotations as well; including the adage: “Man is the wolf of man.”
Wolf-like behavior is what we get from the desperate Casey (Erroll Shand), who comes to town with his sidekick Frank (Joe Bird) to take on a supposed mining claim. Their adventures are juxtaposed with those of a more innocent duo, Max (Hazel Jackson) and Kid (Eli Hart); the native children are effectively enslaved by their white father figure, Billy (Matt Nable).
