Putin warns Europe he is ready for war
Although Russia captured Ukrainian territory such as Mariupol and nearby cities on the Sea of Azov, it was unable to gain control of the western part of the country, including the key port of Odessa.
“The most radical solution is to cut Ukraine off from the sea, then piracy will be impossible in principle,” Putin said in a televised speech before peace talks began in Moscow on Tuesday.

Witkoff and Kushner met with Ukrainian negotiators and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Florida on Sunday. After the talks, Rubio announced that the United States wanted a result that would guarantee Ukraine’s long-term security.
Witkoff and Kushner then flew to Moscow to meet with the Russian leader.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that there was a chance for peace in the talks, but in his speech in Ireland, he said that there should be no reward for Russia as a result.
Zelensky also expressed concerns that Trump would lose interest in war-related negotiations and expose Ukraine to more Russian wars.
When asked about this possibility, he said: “Yes, I am afraid. If one of our allies gets tired, I will be afraid.”
“It is Russia’s goal to get America’s interests out of this situation.”
Zelensky declared that Ukraine wants peace, but he also opposed any outcome that would encourage Russia to start a war.

“One strong country can start a war, another strong country can stop the war, but we need a community, a world of many different nations, to restore justice and defend what is right,” he said.
“One can inspire anyone, and that’s why Ukraine fights for all voices in the world.”
Addressing the Irish parliament during an official visit on Tuesday, Zelensky described the war with Russia as a fight that other countries must also win to avoid future aggression.
“The aggressor must be held responsible for what was done. This has gone on too long for us to close our eyes and turn a new page for Russia,” he said.
