Qatar says several injured in explosion at factory

Qatar’s interior ministry said an explosion occurred as a result of a “technical accident” at a factory in Ras Laffan, an industrial city north of the capital Doha and where the country’s main LNG processing operations are located.

He said many injuries were reported but there were no leaks that “threatened safety.”

The ministry did not specify the exact location of the explosion, but a source with knowledge of the matter said that the explosion occurred at the Barzan gas plant in Ras Laffan and was caused by an “operational error”.

A Reuters eyewitness said a loud explosion was heard in Doha.
