Major fire at U-Haul storage facility near Walker’s Point in Milwaukee

A fire at a U-Haul storage facility near Walker’s Point in the Seaport District was still burning late Jan. 21, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.
The department responded to a fire in the 1500 block of South Barclay Street around 6:30 p.m. As of 22:00, fire crews were continuing to fight the fire in cold weather.
Deputy Chief Schuyler Belott said no injuries were reported. Fire crews searched nearby buildings to make sure the fire did not spread and no one was trapped.
Efforts are being made to extinguish a fire that broke out at the U-Haul storage facility in the 1500 block of South Barclay Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 21, 2026.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The fire was visible from the Hoan Bridge. The surrounding neighborhood just off South First Street had lots of police and firefighters and many traffic lights were down.
U-Haul did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
