Queen Camilla’s food critic son teams up with David Beckham to cook special dish | Royal | News

Queen Camilla’s food critic son and former football legend Sir David Beckham have joined forces to guest edit a one-off issue of Country Life Magazine, published today. Tom Parker Bowles, 50, joined the former footballer to prepare the ingredients for David’s favorite dish in the kitchens of luxury hotel Claridge’s before dining together.

Sir David Beckham said of his favorite British dish as the pair cooked: “There’s something so nostalgic about mashed potatoes, liver, bacon and lots of gravy. It was one of the British comfort classics my mother made for me and was also my grandfather’s favourite.”

He added: “My grandmother was also a great cook and it was always a pleasure to go to the pie and mash shop in Chapel Market. If I had to choose my last meal it would be pie, mash, schnapps and jellied eel.”

David Beckham, former England football captainHe has long expressed his admiration for the Royal Family. In recent years, Beckham has turned to rural life, rural skills (especially beekeeping). and charitable works, and the King attaches importance to similar activities.

Beckham once gifted King Charles a jar of honey he had collected himself, and they met at the King’s Gloucestershire home in Highgrove to compare beekeeping tips and rural interests.

David and Victoria Beckham split their time between their Holland Park townhouse in London and their sprawling £12 million Cotswolds mansion, which they bought in 2016. Beckham developed a love for rural activities, including beekeeping.

In 2024, Beckham was appointed as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation. The organization focused on community regeneration, traditional skills, sustainable food production, nature and heritage.

Father-of-four Beckham, who was knighted in June, follows in the footsteps of members of the Royal Family, including the King, the Crown Princess and the Queen, who was previously succeeded by editor-in-chief Mark Hedges.

Mr Hedges said: “David has produced an outstanding subject. His love and knowledge of the countryside is extraordinary and he has given the Country Life team a great deal of his time and access to aspects of his life that our readers will find truly fascinating.”
