It is understood that a British construction company with a turnover of around £60 million is looking to appoint an administrator. Caldwell Construction has reportedly notified its intention to appoint administrators after reports emerged that staff were not being paid as tensions were high near Liverpool.

A Vistry spokesman said: “We have consulted with Caldwell Construction and it is unfortunate that this action has been taken.
“To ensure there are no delays to construction schedules, we are negotiating with alternative subcontractors from our preferred supplier lists to continue work.”
Caldwell was founded in 2007 and employs around 50 staff at its Stoke head office and North West base in Warrington.
