A famous restaurateur in Queensland has concerns about returning home after a walk.

John Kilroy, 74, was staying with friends in Brisbane while he was treated for cancer.

Friends said Mr Kilroy went for a walk along the Brisbane River on Sunday night but never returned, The Courier Mail reported.

“We’re worried about him,” a friend told the newspaper.

“He was in a lot of pain and went for a walk and we haven’t seen him since.

“The police have been informed.”

He was originally from Western Queensland and had been running bars, restaurants and event venues for more than four decades.

He retired from the industry in 2020, selling his iconic Brisbane steakhouse Cha Cha Char and moving to Hervey Bay.

The restaurant was known for its steaks and hosted politicians, miners and executives.

Queensland Police said it received a report of a 73-year-old man missing from the City of Brisbane on Monday.

“Initial investigations into this report are ongoing,” a spokesman said.
