Queensland’s top cop taken to industrial referee over new senior job
Queensland’s top cop has been taken to the Industrial Relations Commission over allegations the police union was not properly consulted about the creation of a new senior position in his office.
The Queensland Police Warrant Officers Association lodged its complaint against Commissioner Steve Gollschewski with the QIRC on 8 December.
The dispute centers on the creation of a new inspector general role. The union argues that it was not effectively consulted under the employment contract.
“Recently, we as a union of officers have become interested in how positions are created, why they are created,” union president Kerry Johnson said in a statement through attorney Calvin Gnech.
“We will therefore ask the industrial commission to decide on the suitability of these processes.”
A Queensland Police spokesperson told this imprint that “it would be inappropriate to comment further” as the matter was with QIRC.
“The Queensland Police Service values its staff, both sworn and non-sworn, and is committed to building a resilient and professional workforce that provides safety and security across the state,” he said in a statement.
