Questions, Records, Proceedings To Move Online Under E-Vidhan Project

Mangaluru: Legislators in Karnataka will soon be able to submit questions, access records and manage legislative business electronically as the State Legislative Assembly moves to implement the National e-Vidhan App.

In a major technology upgrade for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Informatics Center (NIC) to implement the National e-Vidhan Application, a digital platform aimed at streamlining legislative proceedings and member services.

Addressing reporters in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Speaker UT Khader talked about a wide range of legislative activities that will be brought to the digital platform, making the functioning of both the Houses more efficient and accessible.

A committee was formed, including officials from both Houses of Parliament, to oversee the implementation of the project.

While giving information about the new system, Khader said, “The digital platform will allow legislators to submit questions electronically via their iPads instead of following the current physical process. Responses from ministries and ministries will also be presented through the system.”

The competition in the library will be held digitally.

While the Union Government will bear 60 per cent of the project cost, the State Government will contribute the remaining 40 per cent.

The estimated cost of the system for the Legislative Assembly, including sessions held in Bengaluru and Belagavi, is around Rs 78 billion, while the Legislative Council component is expected to cost Rs 52 billion.
