Hawaiians cram roads away from coasts as tsunami waves arrive
Many Hawai received official advice to leave the coastal areas after a powerful earthquake in the US state and other parts of the Pacific after a strong earthquake near Russia.
On Tuesday evening, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, Maui, where the capital Honolulu’nun Maui, Oahu and Hawaii Islands a few meters high waves recorded, he said.
“Urgent action should be taken to protect their lives and property.” He said.
Governor Josh Green told people in low areas to stay calm and move to a higher place, but then he hit a hopeful tone, saying he hadn’t seen a “wave of result” in the state yet.
People said the roads were busy while evacuating their homes.
The inhabitants of Maui, who were devastated by forest fires two years ago, were among those who moved to the higher place.
The US Western coast – including California and Alaska – is under less tsunami consultancy from the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC).
A NTWC warning means that widespread flood is expected or occurs, a consultation indicates a potential for strong currents or waves that may be dangerous.
Seismologist Dr Lucy Jones predicted that waves could harm the ports and coastal properties in Hawaii and possibly in California, but would not cause a disaster loss of life in America.
Dr Jones may have several feet heights in Hawaii, but compared to 42FT (13m) during a fatal tsunami in Japan in 2011.
But there are no chances of Hawaii.
David Dorn, BBC throne to the throne of the tsunami warnings, and for 30 years for 30 years, Kihei lived a block away from the ocean in the coastal city of Kihai. But he and his wife were treating it differently.
Uz We’re trying to take them all seriously, but most people take them slightly, “said the warning sirens that have been revived since the first warning.
He and his wife were evacuated to a higher place and planned to spend the night in a minibuses in an internal shopping center.
Mr. Dorn, before leaving their homes, even if the sea water penetrate the building, hoping that the beams will not reach the roof floor, he said.
His biggest concern was traffic, especially if the electric poles fell and blocked the roads.
“Traffic is always a problem and worse. He said.
Another Maui resident Roger Pleasanton told BBC that traffic is “like New York now”.
“I was going to the market, but I think I might have to jump and get out of here.”
While Maui was preparing for the arrival of the waves, shelters were opened and water facilities were closed to protect from possible damage.
10 years have passed since Felicia Johnson, a lifetime of life of the island, escaped from the last tsunamon. On Tuesday, he took himself back to a higher place.
The 47 -year -old Mrs. Johnson watched the withdrawal of the water level and then rose to a significant extent – typically described a pattern of tsunamis.
“This frighteningly strange,” he shouted, pacing his truck to spend a night with his family and friends in the mountains.
He compared the situation with the fire that hit Lahaina two years ago and destroyed the island and community.
“The only thing I can do is to leave the house. I’m leaving, so I’m definitely worried about something.
“We lived with fires and there was no warning and it was very destructive. Now, there are so many warnings that if we don’t go, our mistake.”
