Rachel Reeves’ career in tatters as even Ed Balls turns against Labour minister | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Prejudicial discussions surrounding Ed Balls have emerged quite a bit since he joined Good Morning Britain. From where? Because not only is he a former Labor MP, he’s also married to Yvette Cooper. Never in my life did I think I’d see the day when Ed would lead the charge against a Labor MP, but it looks like Ed finally took the wrong turn because of Rachel Reeves on Monday 1 December. Instead of co-host, Susanna Reid, Enter Darren Jones, Balls was more than happy to accept the job. Just last week GMB viewers were outraged that he was biased against Reeves and was being “pro” the Chancellor, but it looks like he’s finally changed course, which isn’t good news for Reeves.
Last week, Balls let Reid go over things with Reeves, but he’s done a complete 180 and now looks extremely angry. Jones appeared to have Balls’ support in defending Reeves, and Balls became angry: “I just wonder if it was wise to put it aside and say no and we were all wrong. I’ve dealt with a lot of budgets, but I had a very hard time understanding what was going on at the time, which was jarring to me.”
He bristled, saying Jones had simply said they were wrong for asking the question, adding: “When you say no, the question is wrong, we feel like you’re dismissing us.”
Now let’s be honest, while Balls is constantly accused of being biased in favor of Labor and not asking the tough questions when MPs join the show, this morning showed me that this could really be the end of Reeves.
How will he come back from this when his own supporters turn their backs? Some lawmakers share their anger, but voters are unimpressed; He actually lost public support after going against his promise not to increase the amount of taxes people pay. There’s no coming back from this.
Reeves told Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday that he is determined to continue as Chancellor for years to come. That’s a pretty bold statement, considering many voters and supporters have called for his resignation. With more and more people turning against him, his career looks to be well and truly in shambles and he needs to wake up if he thinks he can come back from this.
I’m not the only one who noted that it was embarrassing for Balls to turn his back on Reeves, as Piers Morgan wrote on
One user responded: “Ed Balls’ attack on the current Secretary-General is so brutal; if your own side of the story doesn’t buy, the credibility gap becomes impossible to ignore.”
Another added: “It’s crazy that Ed Balls is roasting the current Chief Secretary on live TV! If even he won’t listen to Rachel Reeves’ budget tales, why should the public swallow the same nonsense?”
It doesn’t look good for Reeves if it seems like more and more people are getting angry as the days go by, so where does he go from here? It’s nice to think he’ll stay for years but the truth is he needs support and I don’t think he has it.
