Rachel Reeves lives in La La Land – Robert Jenrick explains why | Politics | News

We learned three things in the Spring Statement. The first is that Rachel Reeves is doing much more damage to our economy than is thought. The Office for Budget Responsibility released its figures and they were dismal. The growth rate of our economy this year has been reduced again. Wages and incomes are set at a flat line. Unemployment is expected to reach its highest level in a decade. More people will be unemployed under Reeves than during the pandemic period.
Taxes are expected to reach their highest level ever. But we learned two more things.
We learn that Rachel Reeves has no idea how to turn around the economy she has crashed.
There is nothing to cut the energy and water bills that have increased under Labor and put a strain on families. Under Labor, no action was taken on food and groceries, the cost of which had increased by almost 10%.
There are no actions or ideas that will cut the exploding welfare bill and get people back to work.
The statement was instead full of misleading boasts. Reeves told us about the plan he’s “continued to move forward with since the election was the right plan.”
The third thing we learned was that Reeves was in La La Land. On a different planet from the rest of us. Has a politician ever done so much damage and shown so little remorse? Are you that lacking in self-awareness? When he became chancellor, inflation was 2%. Currently it is 3%; It is almost twice the European average and the highest rate in the G7.
Numbers don’t lie. Our economy is shrinking per capita, and household incomes are not expected to rise much over the next few years. There was a record increase in the number of businesses in financial distress in the last three months of last year. A large part of our industry is disappearing.
Reform will deliver the change we need.
We will lower your taxes by stopping your government from wasting tens of billions of your money every year. By defusing the welfare bomb set to bankrupt Britain, we will be able to stop Labour’s insane hike in fuel duty. Could there be a worse time to do this?
And we’ll cut your bills by ending the stupid ban on drilling our own oil and gas. With the Conservatives no longer able to win elections, only Reform can defeat Labor and deliver the real change we need.
