RAF warplanes launch strike in key operation ‘to eliminate dangerous terrorists’ | UK | News

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) announced that RAF Typhoons carried out a joint attack with French aircraft on the underground facility occupied by ISIS in Syria. In the daring operation, RAF Typhoon FGR4s, supported by the Voyager refueling tanker, launched the attack alongside the French air force on the evening of Saturday 3 January.

British warplanes used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a series of access tunnels leading to the facility, the MOD said in a statement. The ministry added that evaluation is currently ongoing but “initial indications are that the target has been successfully engaged.”

The MOD also stated that all British aircraft returned safely following the joint attack.

The facility was most likely used by ISIS terrorists to store weapons and explosives.

It was stated that the attack took place in an area “without civilian settlements” and that there was no indication that the attack posed any risk to civilians.
