Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro clash over Maduro capture on ‘The View’

There has been a serious divide among the hosts of “The View” since the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and a new debate flared up on Friday.
The U.S. military and intelligence agencies worked together over the weekend in a mission called “Operation Absolute Resolve” to capture Maduro. Although Maduro’s reign has been controversial and viewed by many as a far-left dictatorship, critics have accused the Trump administration of overstepping its authority. Hostin has repeatedly argued that this was an illegal “kidnapping” by the US government.
The conversation heated up Friday when hosts juxtaposed Maduro’s capture with President Donald Trump’s attempt to buy Greenland.
“Greenland does not belong to the United States, nor should it belong. It is not for sale,” Hostin said. he said.

“Neither is Venezuela,” Behar replied.
“Neither Venezuela nor its oil is ours,” Hostin said. “We went in anyway, we took the president. I call it ‘kidnapping’ because that’s what I believe it is. We took the president of the state of Venezuela, we took the oil, and they’re going to deposit the money into offshore accounts, I guess. So how is this not Greenland?”
Navarro objected to the comparison between overthrowing Maduro and buying Greenland: “Let’s look at some facts. Venezuela is a dictatorship. Greenland is not. Denmark is our ally. Greenland is our ally. We have military bases and operations in Greenland. Denmark is part of NATO, like us, so we are part of a great alliance. Venezuela is a place where the opposition is killed, imprisoned, tortured, human rights are suppressed.”
“What I mean is, we can’t do an equivalence between Greenland and Venezuela. So let’s not do it,” Navarro said.

After an intense back-and-forth conversation about how the United States should handle Venezuela going forward, questions of legality and Greenland, Navarro offered one final point.
While he says questioning the legality of Maduro’s capture is a theoretically legitimate question, it’s ultimately a moot point at this stage.
“The law should never be in dispute,” Hostin responded.
“Well… Sunny, it’s theoretical. We already took the guy out, so we’ve invested billions of dollars and months now –” Navarro began.
When Hostin claimed this was merely a continuation of the “crime,” Navarro challenged him directly.
“So what do you think we should do; send him back to Venezuela?” Navarro asked. “Give it back? Do you think that’s what we should do?”
