IRCTC will offer branded food on select Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains
As part of its efforts for “visible improvements in catering services in trains”, Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) is conducting Proof of Concept (PoC) on some select trains and delinking food production and catering, thus bringing together branded Food and Beverage players (industrial kitchens, restaurant chains and in-flight catering companies) to “offer fresh, hygienic meals for service to passengers”. According to the statement, PoC is being carried out in various regions on some of the newly introduced Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Trains.
IRCTC is a Navaratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways and serves around 16.50 lakh meals per day across the length and breadth of Indian railways. The statement said that IRCTC is constantly working to improve the services provided to traveling passengers. “In order to bring about a paradigm shift in the quality of catering services in trains and achieve visible improvements in catering services in trains, IRCTC has started food trials in some selected trains,” the statement said.
“The focus in these trials continues to be on kitchen infrastructure, food production processes, transfer of meals and food service across the entire supply chain,” he added. Trains with PoC include Nagpur-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express operated by M/s Haldiram’s (Nagpur) and Elior (Secunderabad); Delhi-Sitamarhi Amrit Bharat – M/s Touch Stone Foundation (Delhi); Kasargod-Trivandrum – Casino Air Food Suppliers and Flight Services (CAFS) and Mangalore-Trivandrum- Vande Bharat Exp – Casino Air Food Suppliers and Flight Services (CAFS)
“These food trials also offer passengers a diverse restaurant-quality menu, including local delicacies, aimed at increasing satisfaction during travel,” the statement said. It was stated that positive feedback was received from the passengers regarding the food services on the trains in question. The information obtained from this PoC will be examined to further improve and expand the food and beverage services provided to travelers, the statement said.
