Rain disrupts Mumbai commuter services; waterlogging reported

Mumbai faced disruptions in public transport and road traffic as rain lashed the city and its suburbs on July 1, 2026. Train services on the Western, Central and Port lines were affected due to water on the tracks. Waterlogging of up to 1.5 meters was recorded in Andheri metro. Trees fell on the roads in Kandivali, Borivali, Malad, Dahisar and Goregaon, causing traffic jams. The rain started on the night of June 30 and continued until the morning.

Central Railway and Western Railway officials made statements regarding the rescheduling of some trips. Passengers waited longer at stations. The water level in Andheri metro led to the closure of this route for vehicular traffic.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Konkan region and orange alert for other parts of the state, covering 29 districts, for the next eight days. IMD reported that there was a rainfall deficit in some regions in June. Ahilyanagar district received 66 mm of rain against the expected 108 mm of rain in June. IMD issued 23 yellow warnings throughout the month, but only intermittent rain fell.

The Monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly is taking place in Mumbai. Opposition parties are planning to raise issues related to law, order and farmers on July 1. The state government is expected to face questions about the rain situation and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.
In Parbhani district, a 65-year-old woman farmer was swept away in floodwaters near Adgaon Bazar in Jintur taluka. The incident occurred while returning from work. Neighborhood residents searched throughout the night. Police confirmed that the search operation continued without locating the woman.

Rain in Pune and Sindhdurg districts allowed farmers to start planting activities, which were pending due to dry weather in June. The farming community in these areas was waiting for rain to start the planting season.
The administration asked citizens living in low-lying areas to be careful. Local authorities have installed pumps to remove water from Andheri metro. Traffic police managed vehicle movement at major intersections. The fire department received calls about downed trees in several suburbs. IMD has predicted rain in the coming days. Many office-goers encountered delays in reaching their destination.
