Rain, wind and hail to hit UK this weekend – but sunnier weather is on the way
As unstable weather conditions spread across the country, showers, wind and hail are expected to be effective in many parts of England over the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to drop to around 3 to 4C in towns and cities across the UK on Saturday morning, moving towards East Anglia and the south-east by the afternoon, with heavy rain set to hit northern England and Wales.
Wet and windy weather will gradually move southwards on Sunday, before temperatures rise to mid-degrees across much of the country on Monday.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “Temperatures on Saturday will be 9 or 10C below average. Add in the wind and it will feel a little colder than that.”
Heavy rain in Scotland on Saturday may bring hail and snow to the hills. Starting from noon, rain bands will cease towards the southeast.
Northern and western parts of the UK will experience wet and windy weather on Sunday morning, with heavy rain falling across Scotland and Northern Ireland as it progresses, arriving in northern England and Wales by lunchtime.
Wet and stormy weather, along with possible hail and thunder, is expected across much of Wales and England on Sunday afternoon.
But warmer and drier conditions are on the way; Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-teens and possibly reach 17C in south-east England by Tuesday.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Milder weather is expected to move across the UK from Tuesday, bringing a noticeable change from recent cold conditions. “Many areas, particularly the south and west, will see temperatures rise to near or slightly above the seasonal average.
“Whilst this will make it feel more spring-like at times, conditions will remain variable with some clouds and showers, particularly in the north and west.”

Cloudy with some rain, then moving southeast across central areas before clearing southeastwards. In the northwest, brighter weather arrives with showers, some heavy or wintry, in the northern hills. Windy in the north and less cold than Thursday.

Continued rain is clearing the southeast. In other places, heavy rains are effective. Then steady rain and snow on the hills reached Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England. Windy, colder and frostier.
Saturday
Sunny and showers, some heavy and wintry hail, snow on the hills and occasional thunder. Showers will last longer in England and Wales later in the day. Windy and stormy, colder than Friday.
Outlook from Sunday to Tuesday
On Sunday, rain spreads towards the southeast. Brighter later with northern storms and winter showers. Monday mostly dry, then more cloudy with increased wind. Tuesday warm, cloudy and occasionally rainy; winds are stronger.
