Raj Bhavan redesignated as Lok Bhavan with immediate effect

Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan, the Governor’s office, was re-designated as Lok Bhavan for all official purposes with immediate effect on Monday.

An official statement issued by the Public Relations Offices said: “In an important step towards moving away from colonial terminology and strengthening the ethos of a people-centred democracy, ‘Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu’ has been renamed as ‘Lok Bhavan, Tamil Nadu’ with immediate effect.”

It was stated that the renaming as ‘Lok Bhavan’ for all official purposes was in line with notification from the Union Home Ministry.

“This renaming reflects the evolution of Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan and furthers its long-standing commitment to people-centred management and active public participation in its programs and initiatives.”

The statement further stated: “This represents a meaningful step in India’s ongoing journey to preserve the country’s cultural heritage, civilizational values ​​and the spirit of the Constitution, ensuring that the institution continues to resonate with the aspirations of sisters and brothers in Tamil Nadu.”
