Republican senator Rand Paul’s son, William, apologized Wednesday for his intoxicating tirade at a Washington, D.C., bar in which he told a Republican congressman that he “hated Jews and gays.”
William Paul posted on social media under the name TastyBrew1776: “I drank too much last night and said some things that do not reflect who I truly am. I am sorry and am seeking help for my drinking problem today.”
The apology was issued minutes after Republican congressman Mike Lawler issued the following statement: he told reporters The senator’s son drunkenly approached him at a bar Tuesday night and said he would blame “anti-American” Jews if his father’s ally, Kentucky congressman Thomas Massie, lost next week’s primary.
The younger Paul, who recently served as a congressional aide to two of Lawler’s Republican colleagues in the House, participated in “a 10-minute diatribe about Jews” at the Tune Inn Restaurant & Bar on Pennsylvania Avenue, where Lawler said he “hated Jews and gays and didn’t care if they died.”
“I think this is so disgusting,” Lawler said.

Rand Paul’s senate office did not immediately respond to the Guardian’s request for comment.
Massie is running an increasingly bitter and nasty primary campaign against Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL backed by Donald Trump and Republican billionaire donor Paul Singer, who is Jewish and supports gay rights.
Massie, a critic of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, angered the president by spearheading efforts to release the files of Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender with whom Trump socialized for nearly two decades.

William Paul, who has been accused of assault or driving while intoxicated multiple times in the past, reportedly told Lawler: “Paul Singer serves Israel’s interests, not America’s interests.”
After Lawler stated that he was not Jewish, Paul, who admitted to being drunk, allegedly said, “Wow, I’m so sorry I called you a Jew,” before launching into a tirade. He then called for Lawler to “watch Tucker Carlson more” and reportedly flipped the congressman over and tripped over the barstool as he left.
