Rangers manager update: Danny Rohl back in running for Ibrox

Rangers have restarted talks with Danny Rohl as their new head coach, less than a week after the German’s retirement.

The development comes just hours after a deal to bring Kevin Muscat to Ibrox collapsed amid advanced discussions.

Rohl, whose last managerial position was at Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship, was favored by some at Ibrox before attention turned to Muscat.

Rangers said that negotiations with many candidates are continuing and that they are considering appointing a name to replace the dismissed Russell Martin in the coming days.

Martin was sacked on 5 October after 17 games with Rangers sitting eighth in the league, nine points behind champions Celtic and two points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.

Rangers also failed to qualify for the Champions League under Martin and lost both of their Europa League matches.

They currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premier League with just one win from eight games, 13 points behind Derek McInnes, and will face Brann in the Europa League on Thursday (17:45 CET).
