‘Donnyland…’ Ukraine ‘almost named part of Donbas in Donald Trump’s honour’

Ukraine is reportedly considering renaming part of the disputed Donbas region as “Donnyland” in a bid to gain Donald Trump’s support.
The New York Times reported that the proposed name was suggested by a Ukrainian negotiator as a way to address the former US president.
It was stated that the idea, shared during meetings with US officials, emerged partly as a joke, as Russia insisted that peace would require Kiev to surrender the entire Donbas region, which includes Donetsk and Luhansk.
A Ukrainian negotiator reportedly prepared a fake green-gold flag and national anthem for the fictional region, but it remains unclear whether these were presented to US envoys.
Russia retains full control of Luhansk, while Ukraine still retains parts of Donetsk, including important cities such as Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that accepting the region could embolden President Vladimir Putin to pursue further territorial gains.
“Donnyland” reportedly continues to feature unofficially in talks between U.S. and Ukrainian officials.
It has been suggested that the region could become a demilitarized or free economic zone through President Trump’s Peace Board.
