Rapper Ghetts pleads guilty to causing death by dangerous driving
Rapper Ghetts pleaded guilty to causing the death of a Nepali student in a hit-and-run collision.
The award-winning dirt artist, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, failed to stop after his BMW crashed into 20-year-old Yubin Tamang in north-east London.
Clarke-Samuel, who appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from Pentonville Prison, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Mr Tamang by dangerous driving on October 18, 2025.
The 41-year-old also pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving while behind the wheel of a BMW M5 on Tavistock Place and other London roads in Camden, Islington and Hackney on the same day.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC told Clarke-Samuel that “the only sentence that should be imposed is a prison sentence” but that the length of the prison sentence had not yet been determined.
He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on February 12.
Clarke-Samuel, who is in custody, was immediately banned from driving, but the duration of the ban has not yet been determined.
He also faces two charges that are scheduled to be addressed at his next hearing.
This includes a charge of causing death by reckless driving while over the alcohol limit.
The indictment alleges that on October 18, he exceeded the prescribed limit while driving with 119 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath.
Clarke-Samuel also faces a dangerous driving charge.
He is alleged to have driven a BMW M5 dangerously on Worcester Crescent and other roads in Redbridge, east London, on the same day.
Mr. Tamang was an only child and his parents sent him to England to receive an education.
Ghetts is a rapper and songwriter who has collaborated on tracks with Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran and has performed at Glastonbury multiple times, including in 2024.
He won the best actor award at the 2021 Mobo Awards and received the Mobo pioneer award in 2024.
