RCB victory celebrations turn unruly as fans create ruckus across Hyderabad after IPL 2026 victory

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 31), celebrations broke out across the country, including Hyderabad. However, the festivities in various parts of the city turned erratic with several videos circulating on social media showing vandalism, traffic disruptions and violations of public safety norms.
Police had to intervene in some places and reportedly resorted to light lathi charges in some areas to disperse the unruly crowds and restore order.
Secretariat Road, which has become an increasingly important spot for public celebrations following major sporting victories, was the scene of huge gatherings on Sunday night. Hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate RCB’s title victory, but many were seen blocking traffic and violating traffic rules. Video taken from the area shows a group of fans attacking police barricades, causing them to topple onto the road and blocking the flow of vehicles. Others were seen walking around topless and causing disturbance in the area.
In another incident, KPHB reported, a group of people were seen throwing around trash baskets left behind by vendors after the weekly Sunday vegetable market. In the videos, individuals were seen scattering objects on the road, obstructing traffic and engaging in disruptive behavior.
Another video circulating online showed a man emerging from the sunroof of a moving car and setting off fireworks while holding a box of crackers; This raised concerns about public safety and reckless behavior during the celebrations.
Amid the celebrations, RCB appealed to fans to celebrate the occasion responsibly. In a post on X following the win, the franchise advised fans to celebrate with their families and avoid gathering in large crowds. “The best way to celebrate is to be with your loved ones. Relive the memories and enjoy this special moment in the comfort of your home,” the team said.
The appeal comes against the backdrop of the tragic incident following RCB’s maiden IPL title in 2025. During the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, a crowd crush outside the stadium resulted in the death of 11 fans and injured more than 50 others.
