Reality star Steve McBee says feds threatened to indict entire family

Reality star Steve McBee Sr. claimed the federal government threatened to indict his entire family if he did not accept a plea deal in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme involving crop insurance.

McBee was a guest on Todd and Julie Chrisley’s podcast, “Chrisley Confessions 2.0“On Wednesday. She shared that during the investigation, an investigator approached her son and claimed he was watching their reality TV show and monitoring her Instagram account.

“We were on the tenth episode. It hadn’t aired yet and they were just starting the investigation. When that investigator started, he said to my son, ‘I watched your whole show, I watched your whole Instagram,'” McBee said.

The “McBee Dynasty: The Real American Cowboys” star claimed the feds were “stalking” his family.

“As a matter of fact, one of my lawyers told me I’ve never seen anyone want someone that badly,” he said.

McBee has four adult sons, Steven Jr., Jesse, Cole and Brayden, whom he shares with his ex-wife Kristi.

In the podcast, McBee said that “the problem is over now” and that he does not want his family to be punished for his crime.

“Take all my other people out of this, take all the companies out of this… because at the end of the day, that leaves me in charge. And I take that responsibility and accountability. But as I said, I have 59 LLCs overall. So at the end of the six-hour meeting, we agreed that I would file a motion to file a fraudulent declaration,” he said.

McBee was sentenced to two years in prison During his sentencing hearing on October 16 at the Federal Internment Camp in Yankton, South Dakota, he was ordered to be on supervised release for an additional two years after completing his prison sentence. He will also have to pay $4,022,124 in restitution to the USDA Risk Management Agency.

He had faced up to 30 years in federal prison before his sentencing.

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, McBee shared how he reacted when he learned he was going to prison: “It was a sobering moment.”

He explained that when he first heard about the investigation he “wasn’t really too concerned” because as a business owner for over 33 years he had “been through every audit under the sun”. He thought that this was just like other inspections and that once he received the necessary information, “it would go away like the others.”

However, after a meeting with his lawyer, he realized that this time was different.

“I went there and the government kind of gave us BAFO – the best and final offer,” he said. “We have 48 hours. He said it was their bullying technique, sort of a poker game. And then they basically said, okay, you can plead guilty as an individual, and just to be clear, you can plead guilty to a charge of filing fraudulent returns to crop insurance. If you don’t do that as an individual, Steve A. McBee, we’re going to charge one of my teammates, one of my co-workers, with 27 counts of federal charges. There will be an indictment in 48 hours.”

He described his actions as a “bullying technique” and said both he and his teammates “had nothing to do with it”. “When I saw that they were blaming some of my co-workers,” he said he couldn’t let them take the blame, and as the owner of the company, “I decided that the responsibility would remain with me,” and so he took responsibility.

But when it comes to her family, the reality star said they’ve “never been this close.” He added that he knew he was “raising four lions, not four sheep” and that he wasn’t worried about his sons, as they had a strong work ethic.

Despite everything he’s been through, McBee maintains that he “will never let anyone make me a victim” and that when his sentence is over, he will “come out stronger than ever and ready to go.”
