The WAG told of the family’s stressful move to Lake Garda as they packed everything, including a grand piano, from their home in Leicester to move to Italy.
The family managed to stay in Italy until the end of the season, but Rebekah said it was difficult for her children – Olivia, six, Finley, nine, Sofia, 12, and Taylor, 16 – to find British home-cooked food such as baked beans, gravy and courgettes.
‘My little monsters have been tasked to go and find the comforts of English home. I think the Italian teacher thought I was crazy. The kids asked me to find it, they want beans. ‘It’s really hard to find.’
Having difficulty obtaining a visa and finding a place to live elsewhere, Rebekah insisted that the whole family should move together.
Explaining the decision to move, she said: ‘Some people might say it’s really serious to uproot and move all the kids when you’re so settled and it’s only a two-hour flight away, but the truth is we are a family unit.
‘Either you keep the family together or you two will live very different lives. ‘Separating the family was not an option for us’.
The family flew here by private jet, but eldest child Taylor chose to stay at home with Rebekah’s father Carlos, who is very close to the children.
Daughter Sofia was also worried she would miss her friends, so parents Jamie and Rebekah decided to give her a phone for her 12th birthday.
‘If we went back to England, not in a million years would Sofia have a phone,’ Rebekah said. ‘I say don’t give them a phone until they are at least 30 years old!
‘The real reason we gave him a phone was so he didn’t feel so alone here, so he still felt connected to all his friends, his grandparents and Meg in the UK.’
But things didn’t go as smoothly as they’d hoped, because just months after they started brightening up their lives in the UK, their luxury Italian flat was raided by thieves, leaving Rebekah ‘on guard 24/7’
Meanwhile, after moving to Italy, Olivia wanted to stay home from her school because children in her age group did not speak English, making it difficult for her to communicate with other young children and make friends.
The footballer said moving his entire family to Italy was a challenging process but explained that he needed ‘normality’ and his children to help him ‘keep afloat’.
He told ITV: ‘They’re the ones who really keep you grounded. Having my family around me is huge for me. You need this normality.’
Although Vardy moved to Italy after Jamie’s transfer to US Cremonese, he requested to leave the team this week as his contract will expire this summer.
Vardys airs on Tuesday, June 2 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX. All three episodes will be immediately available to stream online as a box set
