Reddit in? Teen social media ban list hints at change in approach

On December 10, the federal government released a definitive list of social media platforms it said should restrict access to those under 16; Reddit and Australian-owned live streaming platform Kick are expected to follow suit.

Communications Minister Anika Wells sided with eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant on Wednesday, outlining platforms the eSafety office thinks should comply with the “social media minimum age” policy under the legislation’s definitions. The addition of Reddit and Kick follows previously announced platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, X, and Meta’s X-clone Threads.
