Remove tough sofa stains using pan lid and two household ingredients

It was claimed that the cleaning method using two household materials and a pan lid could remove tough stains from the sofa. This tip appeared in an extensive list of 77 home “tricks” compiled by author Eleanor Cording-Booth, who earlier this year began exploring some home tips she might be “missing.”
To help her in her efforts, Eleanor posed this question to her Instagram followers and was inundated with helpful responses; the author noted that white vinegar (unsurprisingly) played a “leading” role. One of the most unusual suggestions involved a two-ingredient mixture and a pan lid to tackle stubborn couch stains; This is a chore we might have in mind after the Christmas pig. “To easily clean your sofa’s fabric, wrap a clean cloth around the sofa’s lid and secure it by the handle. Mix laundry detergent with water and soak your fabric in it,” he wrote in House and Garden.
Eleanor added: “Apply this to an upholstered piece by applying pressure and moving it as if you were a vacuum cleaner.”
However, it’s worth noting that you should be careful when cleaning fabric sofas, as different care labels dictate the best method, according to furniture company Furniture Instore.
She shared an alternative technique that also uses laundry detergent, but emphasized that you should only use it on sofas labeled W or WS. These indicate that water-based cleaners or water- or solvent-based cleaners are acceptable.
The method requires only a teaspoon of mild dish soap or laundry detergent, 250ml of warm distilled water, microfiber cloths and a spray bottle if you wish, for use on fabrics described as “delicate fabrics”.
First, you should mix soap and water to create a foam, apply it gently to a cloth, wipe the stain softly (make sure you start from the outside and work inward), and then dry the mixture with a clean cloth.
It was also recommended to use a third cloth to remove any remaining moisture and then allow the sofa to dry.
In related news, earlier this year cleaning enthusiasts shared a “genius” hack on social media to help us easily remove stains from our sofas, and it only required one item.
A woman took to Reddit for advice on how to remove pencil marks after her toddler left a “masterpiece” behind her “suede material” sofa.
She wrote: “How do I get this toddler masterpiece off my couch? The masterpiece medium is the pencil. The canvas is my dad’s couch, made from some kind of suede-like material. Help!”
One person suggested: “Rubbing alcohol. I would use 50% to avoid too much damage. It’s a saving grace for ink on clothing/furniture. I marked my mother-in-law’s new suede sofa with a pen and thought I’d see Jesus soon. Thank God.”
But another warned that the Reddit user should try to “spot” the stain rather than rub it, as this could risk making the problem worse or damaging the fabric of the sofa.
It’s important to note once again that you should always check the manufacturer’s care label before trying any cleaning tips.
