SC Commission Takes Up Dalit Grievances in Chittoor

What are you doing? The State SC Commission on Wednesday began examining complaints from Scheduled Caste communities in Chittoor; Land disputes, caste certification issues, and access to welfare programs emerged as key concerns.
Commission chairman KS Jawahar said that the petitions received during the visit will be examined and instructions will be given to district officials. During his two-day visit, he received representatives and held a press conference. He said many complaints regarding land disputes and pending issues would be verified and discussed with departments for resolution.
Issues regarding caste certifications, particularly the “Adi Andra” and “Adi Andra Christian” classifications, were also highlighted. The commission is reviewing these to avoid delays in extending aid. Jawahar said the panel evaluated whether welfare programs are reaching eligible beneficiaries by focusing on Dalit development within the framework of 15% reservation.
He said meetings were held with the collector and the SP and instructions were issued to redress the grievances. He emphasized that Chittoor should not face discrimination and warned of action if benefits are denied on the grounds of caste.
