Renowned opera singer stabbed to death in California home and cops say his son is suspected killer
A famous opera singer stabbed to death in it Los Angeles area at home and his son were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Officers with the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the city home Monday night after receiving a 911 call that “an assault was in progress,” authorities said.
Police said they found 71-year-old Jubilant Sykes seriously injured, which appeared to be a stabbing. The singer was pronounced dead on the property.
It was stated that Sykes’ 31-year-old son Micah was the suspect in the murder. Police said the man was taken into custody at the home “without incident.”
The events leading up to the stabbing remain unclear, according to authorities, and forensic experts are currently examining evidence, including a gun found in the home.

According to jail records reviewed, Micah was arrested for murder and his bail was set at $2 million. Independent. It is not yet known whether he has a lawyer.

Another friend, Sammy Murphy, remembered Sykes as “a good man” and “a good singer”, adding: “I know he’s going to heaven.”
Murphy said Sykes had three sons, one of whom was a “bad guy.” It’s unclear if he’s referring to Micah.
An anonymous neighbor told the local outlet KABC that it is generally a “very quiet” area.
“I walked over there and saw the crime records and knew something big had happened,” the neighbor said. “The coroner was here and it’s a very quiet neighborhood.
“It’s very scary. I heard it was a family dispute, but it’s very sad that this happened during the holidays.”
Neighbors and investigators told local media that Micah allegedly struggled with mental health issues. Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the murder.
