Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said Monday that he would absolutely support President Donald Trump taking military action in Iran if deemed necessary.

“Sure, absolutely,” he said on CNN. “Absolutely, if it continues to make more sense. I think I was the only Democrat who fully supported our attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities last year.”

“Without such attacks, Iran could have obtained a nuclear bomb. I hope we can all agree that Iran should never have acquired a nuclear bomb,” he added.

“Iran is one of the world’s biggest terrorists” [underwriters]“Now we have the toxic regime spiraling — so why wouldn’t we want to support that and those brave protesters,” the Democrat added. “They’ve probably killed over 600 so far, so why now? [wouldn’t] “We want to have the kind of targeted actions that can break this regime?”

Presenter Kate Bolduan quoted Trump administration officials as saying possible US attacks could undermine the protests and increase support for Iran.

Fetterman again expressed his support for strikes, if that makes sense, and said he was inspired by the courage of the protesters.

“Why don’t we all want to support this, support them and bring this terrible regime to its knees now,” he said.

“They are so desperate. Now they killed the internet and now they are slaughtering their own citizens,” he continued. “I think we can all agree that if you could break this regime, the world would be better, safer and fairer.”

Rep. Pat Ryan, D-Y., followed up on Fetterman’s appearance on CNN and said his fellow Democrat’s comments raised his blood pressure.

Describing the Iranian regime as evil, Ryan said that it was wrong to bypass Congress regarding military action and said, “This makes me angry… I lost my friends and many innocent Iraqis lost their lives in the 27-month war in Iraq.”

Trump said Sunday that Iran was “beginning to cross” U.S. red lines amid anti-regime protests, citing reports of civilian deaths and warning that any attack on American interests would be met with overwhelming force as his administration weighs what he called “very strong options.”

“It looks like they’re starting and it looks like some people who shouldn’t have been killed have been killed,” he told reporters. “They are violent; if you call them leaders, I don’t know if they are leaders or if they just rule through violence. We’re also looking at some very strong options. We’ll come to a decision.”
